Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 13 Ventura through macOS 26 Tahoe, on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
Which servers work with Tether?
Anything that speaks SMB, AFP or WebDAV — Synology, QNAP, TrueNAS, Windows, Linux Samba, Nextcloud/ownCloud, or another Mac.
How do I connect from outside my home network?
Use a mesh VPN like Tailscale or WireGuard (recommended), then point Tether at your server’s VPN address. Never port-forward SMB to the open internet.
Where do I enter my Premium license key?
Open Tether → Settings → License, paste your key, and click Activate. Premium unlocks multiple servers and Offline Sync on up to 3 Macs.
I’m moving to a new Mac — how do I free a seat?
On the old Mac, open Settings → License and deactivate. That frees a seat you can use on the new Mac. Your key stays the same.
Is my data safe with Offline Sync?
Yes. Deletes are off by default. If you opt in to delete propagation, it’s change-tracked and recoverable, so an accidental delete never silently wipes the other side.
Do I need an account?
No. The free tier needs no account and no network to us. Premium is just a license key emailed to you after purchase.
