Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
Tether is a native macOS app published by Jonathan Rhodes (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what little data we handle and why. It is written to be plain and honest; it is not legal advice.
The short version
- The Tether app runs on your Mac. Your files, servers and credentials stay on your device and go only to the servers you connect to. We never see them.
- The free tier does not talk to our servers at all.
- We only receive data when you buy Premium or activate a license.
What we collect
Purchases. Payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe handles your card details; we never see them. We receive your email address and name from the completed order so we can email your license key and provide support.
Licensing. When you activate a license, the app sends your license key, a random per-Mac device identifier, and a device name (e.g. “Jonathan’s MacBook Pro”) to our licensing API. We store these to enforce the 3-Mac limit and to let you free a seat. We do not collect the contents of your drives.
Email. Transactional emails (your license key, admin sign-in links) are sent via our mail provider (Brevo).
What we don’t do
- No advertising or third-party analytics trackers.
- No selling or sharing of your data.
- No access to your files, folders or network credentials.
Retention
We keep license and order records for as long as your license is valid and as required for accounting. You can ask us to delete your personal data where we’re not legally required to keep it.
Your rights
You can request a copy of, correction to, or deletion of your personal data. Email hello@hellotether.app.
